“Laban Practice Meets Somatics ”
June 2006, Mount Madonna, California.

This conference focused on the emerging interface between Laban-based movement and contemporary somatic practices. Nancy Allison, editor of The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Body-Mind Disciplines, gave the keynote address. A rich program of workshops, panel discussions, and paper presentations addressed Laban theory in relation to Alexander Technique, Gyrotonics, Connective Tissue Massage, Structural Integration, Ergonomics, Dance Movement Therapy, and post-secondary education.

 

“Theory into Practice:Taking Laban into the 21st Century,”
June 2001, Hampshire College, Amherst, Massachusetts.

This conference focused on applications of Laban-based movement theory in a range of disciplines. Presenters included choreographer Geraldine Stephenson, who was celebrating 50 years of creative work in British theatre, television and film; management consultant Warren Lamb, whose Movement Pattern Analysis profiles have been used by senior management teams around the world; and sociologist Deborah Heifetz-Yahov, whose research has examined the impact of movement style in Israeli-Palestinian social and political relations.

“Healing and Wholeness through Movement,”
July 1999, Boulder, Colorado.

New York actor-director George Bartenieff was keynote speaker for a program that included theatre and dance performance work with handicapped children and disturbed adolescents, as well as presentations on dance therapy (Pat Mowry-Rutter), exercise for the elderly (Janet Hamburg), and therapeutic movement education for children (Bonnie River).

June 1997, St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota.

Dance educator Vera Maletic gave the keynote address.Highlights of the program included presentations by dance notation expert Ann Hutchinson Guest, dance technology pioneer Lisa Naugle, and a session on intellectual property issues for movement professionals.
